Extemporaneous Speaking National Camp

WHEN?
July 15 to July 31, 2009. Registration is at 10:30 a.m., classes start at 1 p.m.

COST?
$1,325.00. (Alumni are $1,195.00, commuters $585.00, coaches $540.00.) This includes tuition, your room, meals, a free book and 300 articles, and some supplies. Transportation is the student’s responsibility.

WHERE?
At the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico. (All dorms and class rooms are air conditioned).

WHO MAY ATTEND?
This camp is open to all high school students and teachers. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-accepted policy. The camp is work intensive and best serves very committed students.

DIVISIONS
You can enroll for one of three options: foreign, domestic, or generic extemp. Generic extemp is designed for students whose tournaments usually have both foreign and domestic topics in the topic draw.

CLASSES
All students have classes on Extemp Personality, and Extemp Organization. Foreign student classes also include International Issues, The Americas, Africa, Asia, Europe, the Russian Sphere, the Middle East, Foreign Policy, Breakfast Forum, and Developing Issues. Domestic Students have classes on Political Issues, Crime, Education, Environment, Public Service, Social Policy, Health and Medicine, Breakfast Discussion, Government, Science and Space, and Foreign Policy.

PRACTICE
Twenty-three practice rounds are included. These speeches are critiqued, often by national champion students or coaches.

FREE
Hundreds of articles, filing system, and a text are given to the students at the start of camp. A legal pad notebook is also provided free.
